In October 2014, my partner, Lynda, and myself left on an overland trip. We travelled for 6 months in our trusty car called Mzungu - a 2005 Toyota Hilux. Travelling inland via Zimbawe, Malawi & as far north as Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Heading back home, we took the coastal route from Pangani in Northern Tanzania & headed South to Mozambique, stopping for a week in Zanzibar.
We crossed into Northern Mozambique via the Ruvuma River. Affected by the Hurricanes, we got stuck in Mozambique, unable to go further South than Nampula. The main bridge, linking the North & the South at Mocuba, had been washed away. The Bridges & roads to Malawi or Zimbawe were also washed away. We eventually found a back route into Malawi, a 220km trip that took us 13 hrs. After resting up a week in Malawi we headed back into Mozambique via Tete, Chimoio & down South.
